Year 1

Welcome to Year 1!

Our teacher's are Mrs Ward and Mrs Webster.

Our teaching assistant is Mrs Dwyer.

We also have Miss Smith carrying out her teacher training in our class this year.

Our topic this term is 'Traditioanl tales with a Twist'.

During the first half of the Autumn Term our writing will be based around the stories 'Jack and the Beanstalk' and 'Rumpelstiltskin'.  The children will be retelling these stories in words and pictures and even acting them out.  The children will be thinking about the characters and we will be challenging their ideas about who really is the bad character. The children will  be learning about nouns, adjectives, prepositions and time adverbials.  We will be focusing on the children composing their ideas into sentences and writing these down using capital letters, full stops and finger spaces accurately.

A version of the traditional tale 'Rumpelstiltskin'.

Literacy Games
Have fun playing these rhyming games.

During this half term the children will be doing lots of counting both forwards and backwards.  We will be counting in steps of ones, twos and tens.  The children will be taking part in missing number activities and practicing reading and writing numbers to 20.    We will be looking  at numbers shown in many different representations.  We will be comparing numbers using mathematical language more, less, greater fewer and also using the symbols < and >.

Please read at home as often as you can with your child - it really does make a difference.  Your child will bring home one levelled reading book plus a free choice book from the library.  Please place these along with your child's reading diary in the black tray in the classroom when you would like your child's books changing.
