Year 6K

Welcome to Class 6K!

Our Teacher is Miss Keightley

Our Teaching Assistant is Miss Crofts

Hagg Farm! What a fantastic week. I am so, so proud of year six. They were enthusiastic, responsible and above all, absolutely hilarious. What a memorable week! Just a few snapshots from the week. Sorry I couldn't upload as we went. Who'd have though you wouldn't be able to get Wi-Fi in the Peak District.

Happy Fathers Day to our fabulous Dads and Grandads and Uncles! A selection of reasons from 6K why you are amazing!

Our exciting new topic for the summer term.

Who said maths revision can't be fun. Today we created maths graffiti with everything we have learnt to do in year 6. The results were very impressive. We surprised ourselves with our knowledge and confidence. We might even add more.

Who says we can't have fun learning our spellings!

Wonder: Book Trailer

This is the trailer for our new book. The children are really enjoying it. It's raising lots of interesting questions about what makes us unique and how we treat people that are different to us.

Our class books this term are Wonder and Skellig!

6K had a fantastic day celebrating reaching France for our reading challenge. We built the Eiffel Tower out of spaghetti and marshmallows (some more successfully than others - though if there was a prize for most marshmallow in hair Freya and Leah would win). We also ate French bread and cheese. Agreed, Stilton isn't very french but it was fun watching 6K try it (and most did). The Brie and Roblochlon were the most popular. We also celebrated the end of term with out typical FriYAY! 6K had plenty to be proud of.

6K are loving the new library system. Thank you Dylan, Freya, Leah and Jay for helping set it up and explaining the system to your class.

Happy FriYAY!

Happy New Year! We have all been very excited to be back at school. As always on FriYAY we share something we are proud of that week (week and a half). Some brilliant responses, 6K (as always) have had a brilliant start!

Under The Sea. 6K had an awesome day getting dressed up as sea creatures or blue. They all looked brilliant. We were particularly impressed with Freya's Fish Face!

Spot the difference!? So proud of our 100% Attendance children from 6K. Especially with all the bugs going round. Eleven out of twenty one is a brilliant achievement!

Today Tasha came in to talk to 6K about photography. This stemmed from a conversation surrounding our new class book Kensuke's Kingdom. We looked at the very first photographs ever produced and looked at some (kindly donated) cameras. I think we may have some new budding photographers in 6K!

Homework

This week I didn't give the children any additional homework other than spellings, Mathletics and the expectation that the children read at least three times this week minimum. D.A.R.E homework is due Friday the 20th and I will hold a short homework session on a Thursday or Friday morning for children to access any resources they may need from school and to ask for any support them need from staff.

Homework

Below I have attached examples of the mathematical methods we are using in class.

Please remind children that I will always run a homework session during the week and that they can ask for help at any point if they are struggling with any homework given.

Addition methods we are using in class. For the SATs they will be expected to use and understand column addition. At the moment I am encouraging the children to use partitioning as this strengthens their understanding of place value. The short method is encouraged as this helps their mental mathematics. We still use this to check answers. The children will be encouraged to use both methods for accuracy.

Subtraction methods we are using in class. For SATs children are expected to know and use the formal method of column subtraction. However, to strengthen the children's mental mathematical skills we have been using number lines to incorporate the use of number bonds, rounding, partitioning etc into every day mathematics. Children will benefit from becoming confident using both methods.
